The Hutto Hippos varsity football team will host the Stony Point Tigers in a district matchup on Friday, Oct. 18, at Hutto Memorial Field. The Hippos are looking to rebound from a 29-14 road loss to Round Rock, while the Tigers enter the matchup with momentum following a 21-18 win over Manor.

Hutto’s offense struggled in its last outing, posting a seasonlow 14 points and just 266 total yards. Junior quarterback Kaden Stefek completed 16 of 31 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns, connecting primarily with senior wide receiver Braeton Anderson and sophomore wideout Jaiden Fields.

Despite the setback, the Hippos have been prolific on offense this season, averaging 41 points per game.

They’ll have a chance to get back on track against a Stony Point defense that allows 33 points per contest.

On the other side, junior quarterback Mason Troyer leads the Tigers’ offense, which averages 29 points per game. Troyer has thrown for 1,007 yards and 10 touchdowns, with his top targets being senior wide receiver Andrew Gomez and junior wideout Trystin Rymes. Gomez has tallied 563 yards and eight touchdowns, while Rymes has accumulated 503 yards and five scores.

A key concern for the Hippos has been their defense, which has allowed 31 points per game. However, the unit showed improvement last week, keeping Hutto within striking distance until the fourth quarter. Junior linebacker Brayden Daniel and senior linebacker Cashton Laplante combined for 23 tackles, including seven tackles for loss. Continued progress on defense will be crucial against a capable Stony Point offense.

The Hippos will also look to establish the ground game, with junior running back Keilan Chavies coming off a 101-yard, one-touchdown performance against a tough Round Rock defensive front. A productive rushing attack could help Hutto control the clock and keep its defense off the field.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Hutto Memorial Stadium.
