Granger shuts out Eagles 44-0

The Granger Lions varsity football team defeated the Milano Eagles 44-0 in a shutout victory on Friday, Oct.

4. Lions junior quarterback Wyatt Rochner led the offense with 86 passing yards and four touchdowns.

Granger’s offense was explosive from start to finish as they quickly jumped to a 7-0 lead and never looked back. The Lions would extend their lead on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Rochner to junior wide receiver Joseph Sifuentes making it 14-0. Sifuentes was Rocher’s top target, accounting for 38 yards and three scores.

Granger’s defense also helped put points on the scoreboard as freshman cornerback Nicholas Blane returned an interception for a touchdown.

Blane would score on the next drive as he ran in a touchdown off a jet sweep pass from Rochner to make it 44-0 in the second half.

Junior running back Caleb Hobratsch was the leading rusher for the Lions with 10 touches for 83 yards.

Defensively, Granger was led by sophomore defensive end Dreydon Rhea and senior defensive back Jose Valverde. Rhea had 5.5 tackles and two sacks, while Valverde accounted for an interception.

The Lions improved to 3-2 overall and remain undefeated in district play at 2-0.

Granger’s next matchup will be on the road versus Lola on Friday, Oct.

11 at 7 p.m.
