Ducks aim for 3-0 district start against Northeast Early College

Ducks aim for 3-0 district start against Northeast Early College

The Taylor Ducks varsity football team will go on the road to take on the Northeast Early College Raiders on Friday, Oct. 11.

The Ducks will look to extend their win streak and remain unbeaten in district play, starting 2-0. Taylor will go into this matchup carrying some momentum, coming off a 76-0 win over Austin Achieve.

The Raiders are coming off their bye week.

Senior quarterback Eli Laurence has continued solidifying his starting spot for Taylor, going 3-of-5 for 73 yards and three passing touchdowns last week. His top target has been senior wide receiver Jamarcus Seawood, who caught a touchdown pass from Laurence in his previous two games.

Senior running back Andrias Fisher has led the Ducks’ backfield, rushing for 44 yards and two scores against the Polar Bears. Another notable player is freshman all-purpose athlete Johnny Guzman, who had 33 receiving yards and a touchdown last week.

The Taylor defense will look to slow down the run game, as the Raiders heavily rely on their ground attack.

Senior defensive lineman Kaddy Maravilla anchors the Ducks’ defense and was impressive against Austin Achieve, accounting for several tackles for loss and even scoring a rushing touchdown. Other notable players include senior linebacker Matt Rangel and junior linebacker Stephen Rogers. Rangel has 42 tackles on the season, while Rogers leads the team with 52.

The game is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. at Nelson Field.
