The St. Mary’s Rams six-man football team won its first district game of the season 54-34 against the Waco Christian Warriors on Friday, Oct. 4. This improves the Rams’ record to 1-4, as the Warriors fall to 4-2.
Senior allpurpose player Ty Zimmerhanzel continued his remarkable season with 225 yards and five total touchdowns.
Zimmerhanzel now has 30 touchdowns on the year. Senior Ethan Britten was also impressive, racking up 113 yards and two scores. Senior quarterback Kolbe Barta threw for 54 yards and two touchdowns.
The St. Mary’s defense stepped up, having struggled all season, giving up 72 points per game, but were able to hold Waco Christian to just half of that. The Rams were led by senior defensive end Peairson DeHoyos, who had six solo tackles. St. Mary’s will look to build off this win as they return to action on Friday, Oct. 11, versus Dallas Academy.
