Cheers for Taylor Homecoming 2024
It’s the Century of the Ducks, and the Taylor Independent School District staged a homecoming that many say will be remembered for ages.
Capping off a week’s worth of events, Gray Talavera and Amelia “Mei Mei” Irisawa were crowned as homecoming king and queen at halftime Friday during the big game between Taylor High School and Austin Achieve High School.
Earlier in the week, decked-out floats and cars full of students, teachers and alumni paraded from Old Taylor High to Memorial Field at Murphy Park Oct. 2 during a homecoming parade.
Communities in Schools, Texas’ dropout prevention program, led the parade. Chief Advocacy and Outreach Officer Christian Clarke Casarez said the organization is new to the school district.
The homecoming court, from the underclassmen princes and princesses to the king and queen nominees, rounded out the procession.
Members of the court include:
• Freshman class prince and princess Zuriel Roberson and Lauren Garza
• Sophomore class prince and princess Ethan Green and Janess Garcia
• Junior class prince and Aaron Grimaldo and Zoe Telles In addition to the king and queen, senior nominees were Adrian Ramirez, Jerrell Roberson, Ethan Flagg, Cooper Mendoza, Mason Zana, Miguel Morales, Daks Smith, Sophia Fisher, Aubrie Bortle, Brianna Curtis, Kathy Mejia, Alexandra Rebollar-Cruz, Jacqueline Martinez and Lily Davy.
The homecoming court then paraded around Memorial Field to be recognized at the pep rally and build anticipation for Friday’s crowning.
Taylor Ducks’ pride shined as the Hi-Steppers, color guard, band, Special Olympics delegation and all the sports teams were recognized at the rally.
The school district has recognized this academic year as the Century of the Ducks in honor of 100 years of Taylor’s storied mascot, a mallard duck.
