Three Takeaways

By Carter Bordwell [email protected]

Taylor fails to capitalize in the red zone

The Taylor Ducks have struggled offensively since the start of the season, averaging just 17.75 points over four games. In previous weeks, turnovers were a major issue for the Ducks as they turned the ball over 10 times in three games. However, against La Grange, Taylor minimized those turnovers but couldn't seem to score when it mattered. The Ducks had several opportunities in the red zone but failed to capitalize, scoring just seven points in a 35-7 defeat to the Leopards. Taylor will take an 0-4 overall record into district play against Manor New Tech on Friday, Sept. 27.

The Hutto offense is under too much pressure

The Hutto Hippos have been electric on offense, averaging more than 40 points per game to start the season. Unfortunately for the Hippos, the defense has given up about the same number of points to opposing offenses, putting too much pressure on junior quarterback Kaden Stefek and the offense to score on almost every drive. This was even more evident in the Hippos' 43-36 loss to Manor, where the offense took the lead late in the fourth quarter, 36-35, but the defense allowed the game-winning touchdown drive to the Mustangs. Luckily for Hutto, they are entering a bye week and can work on some of their defensive issues before resuming district play.

Granger's rushing attack is elite

The Granger Lions got their first win of the season, 34-22, against Holland on Friday, Sept. 20. The Lions' overall success has heavily relied on their running game as junior quarterback Wyatt Rochner had a field day against Holland, rushing for nearly 200 yards and two touchdowns. Junior running back Caleb Hobratsch was also impressive, rushing for 71 yards and adding a score. If Granger can continue this success on the ground, they will be a tough team to beat the rest of the way.
