The 23rd annual SPJST BBQ Cook-off is Sept. 27-28 at the Taylor SPJST Hall, 5025
FM 619.
Cooks can enter for a chance to win prize money. The entry fee is $125 for chicken, pork
ribs and brisket; there is a $10 fee for Jackpot pinto beans, Jackpot Cook’s Choice and Jackpot
pork butt.
Cash and trophies will go to the first through 10th places in all meat categories. For
“Master Cook” and “Best Rig,” first- to third-place place winners will receive cash and hand-
carved trophies created by Jesse Pospisil.
Jackpot pinto beans, cook’s choice and pork-butt participants will receive 80% payback,
and cash prizes will be awarded for first through fifth place as well as trophies for first through
10th place.
A free dance is 7:30-11:30 p.m. Friday, Sept.27, and old-fashioned hamburgers will be
on sale starting at 6 p.m.
On Saturday, Sept. 28, there is a silent auction from 10 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Judging is open to anyone from the community on Saturday, Sept. 28.
Winners will be announced at 4:30 p.m. that day.
