The Hutto Hippos varsity volleyball team was overwhelmed by the Stony Tigers, losing in straight sets 3-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 17. This is just the third time this that the Hippos have lost in three straight sets.
The first set was the competitive as the Hippos battled back from being down 10-0 to start but ultimately fell 25-17. set was the least competitive, as Hutto could not find answers for the Tigers, losing 25-6. The final set ended 25-14 as the Tigers closed out the victory.
A major storyline in the game was the Hippos' inability to handle the aggressive play of the Tigers at the net. Stony Point junior middle hitter Taliah Angwekwe was a force at the net, accounting for two blocks and forcing Hutto into playing defensively. Top performers for the Hippos were senior middle hitter Delijah Bedford and senior setter Isabella Orton, both of whom have made significant impacts on the team throughout the season. They continued that in this game, accounting for multiple kills and blocks. Hutto falls to 16-15 overall and 4-2 in district play. Stony Point improves to 14-19 and 3-2 in the district. The Hippos’ next games include a road match at Manor on Friday, Sept. 20, and a home game versus Vandegrift on Tuesday, Sept. 24. Both games are scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
