Junior quarterback Camden Huff’s five touchdown passes gave Manor (1-2, 1-0 district) its first district win of the season, defeating Hutto (2-2, 1-1 district) 43-36 on Friday night at Manor Athletic Complex.
On the first drive of the game, Hutto junior quarterback Kaden Stefek threw the first of his two interceptions. Manor senior defensive tackle Maxwell Osareniye intercepted a screen pass, leaping ahead of the intended receiver.
The Mustangs scored the only touchdown of the first quarter with a 10-yard pass from Huff to senior wide receiver Jonathan Buhendwa.
Early in the second quarter, Hutto appeared to secure an interception, but a roughing the passer call on thirdand- long reversed the turnover, giving Manor an automatic first down. Penalties continued to hurt Hutto throughout the game.
At halftime, Manor held a 22-15 lead, which was quickly extended on the first snap of the third quarter when Huff connected with senior wide receiver Jordan Clark for a 75-yard touchdown.
Hutto found itself in a 29-15 hole early in the second half. However, the momentum swung back after the Hippos blocked a punt, Stefek scored on a 1-yard touchdown run, and Hutto intercepted a pass. With a chance to tie the game, Hutto failed to capitalize on the turnover due to penalties, giving the ball back to Manor.
Still, the Hippos kept fighting. Two fourth-down conversions on one drive led to Stefek’s second rushing touchdown, pulling Hutto within seven points early in the fourth quarter.
On the next drive, junior running back Keilan Chavies ran it in from 15 yards out, giving the Hippos a 36-35 lead with five minutes remaining.
Manor responded with a 79-yard touchdown reception from Clark. The Mustangs' two-point conversion was successful, giving them a 43-36 lead.
With just over four minutes left, Stefek threw his second interception, and Manor ran out the clock in victory formation.
Hutto has a bye next week and will resume district play at home against Round Rock Westwood on Oct. 4.
