Hutto must fix its defensive issues
The Hippos offense has been hot to start the 2024 season. Unfortunately, the defense has been the exact opposite, giving up 56 points last week to the Cedar Ridge Raiders. This has been the Achilles heel for Hutto the past two weeks as they gave up 31 to the Judson Rockets. The main issue is miscommunications and busted coverages that have allowed big plays to opposing offenses. If the Hippos want to compete for a district title, they will have to improve drastically on the defensive side of the ball.
Taylor has some hope at quarterback
The Ducks went into the game versus Lago Vista hoping to find an answer at quarterback and they may have found just that. Despite a 29-22 loss to Lago Vista, Taylor put in senior quarterback Eli Laurence in the middle of the game, and he sparked the Duck's offense throwing the ball deep downfield and finding Damico Calico for a 67-yard touchdown pass. It will be interesting to see if Laurence can continue this momentum as they take on La Grange at home this week.
Thrall’s offense is elite
The Thrall Tigers have been scoring at will versus opposing defenses averaging over 40 points per game. Senior quarterback Chance Parker leads this group as he continues to put together a spectacular career with the Tigers. Last week Thrall scored 56 points versus Eastside Early College in a 56-0 victory. If the Tigers can continue this offensive momentum heading into district play, they may be the favorite to take home the championship in its first season.
