Hippos continue district play versus Manor

Hippos continue district play versus Manor

The Hutto Hippos varsity football team will go on the road to take on the Manor Mustangs on Friday, Sept. 20.

This will be the second district game of the season for the Hippos after defeating Cedar Ridge 63-56 last week. The Mustangs are coming off a 38-14 loss to Harbor Heights.

Defense will be key for Hutto, as they gave up more than 400 yards last week to a Cedar Ridge offense that had not scored more than 14 points in its first two games.

The Hippos need to clean up miscommunications and busted coverages if they want to stay undefeated in district play. They are led by junior linebacker Brayden Daniel and senior linebacker Cashton Laplante. Daniel has 31 tackles, including six for loss, while Laplante has 30 tackles. Junior quarterback Kaden Stefek leads a Hutto offense that averages more than 50 points per game. Stefek was on fire last week, accounting for five touchdowns and leading the game-winning drive to secure the victory. Senior wide receiver Braeton Anderson is his top target, averaging 98.3 yards per game and scoring six total touchdowns.

Other top players for the Hippos include junior running back Keilan Chavies and sophomore wide receiver Jaiden Fields. Chavies has 312 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the year, while Fields has 195 receiving yards and four touchdowns this season.

Junior quarterback Camden Huff leads the Mustangs’ offense with 594 passing yards and three touchdowns.

His top target is senior wide receiver Jordan Clark, who has 213 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Manor is led by senior defensive lineman Damien Godley and senior defensive end Jaxson Cofield. Both have seven tackles on the season, while Cofield has four tackles for loss.

The game is set to kick off at 7 p.m. at The Manor Athletic Complex.
