Panthers in shutout
Thrall High School Tigers (3-0) roared to a decisive 56-0 victory over Eastside Early College High School Panthers (0-3) in their first road game of the season. The Tigers swiftly surged to a 21-0 lead within the first five minutes, highlighted by a touchdown run from senior quarterback Chance Parker, a touchdown pass from Parker to senior wide receiver Tyler Ortiz, and a defensive score by senior defensive back Anson Gonzales on a strip fumble return.
Despite a brief lull due to two turnovers a muffed punt and a fumble, the Tigers regained their momentum in the second quarter.
Senior running back Avery Gomez scored on a 27-yard run, followed by two additional touchdowns, bringing the halftime score to 42-0.
The Panthers struggled offensively, managing just one first down before halftime.
In the second half, with the play clock running continuously, the Tigers continued to dominate. Sophomore running back Ty Mathews added to the lead with a touchdown on Thrall’s opening drive of the half. The Panthers failed to gain a first down or find a way to counter the Tigers’ relentless defense, resulting in a scoreless second half for Eastside.
Thrall’s next challenge is against Troy High School (3-0) on Friday, Sep. 20 at 7:30 p.m. at Troy High School, as both teams look to maintain their undefeated record.
