THRALL — The Thrall Tigers varsity volleyball team defeated the Smithville Tigers in four sets 3-1 on Tuesday, Sept. 10. The battle of the Tigers was on full display this week as Thrall came out victorious in a competitive matchup.
Thrall lost the first set 26-24 but went on to win the next three sets 25-19, 25-18 and 26-24. Some top players for Thrall were senior outside hitter Amber Kevil and junior defensive specialist Kinley Hoffman. Kevil led the team in kills with 14, while Hoffman had 32 digs. Another key player was Thrall senior setter Emily Holybee accounting for 27 assists.
Defensively Thrall was stout at the net accounting for seven blocks, which was one of the keys to the game. Junior middle hitter Cynthia Flournoy-Walker was a big part of this accounting for three blocks herself. Thrall improves to 16-6 on the season, while Smithville falls to 6-11.
Thrall will now head into district play facing off against Franklin at home on Friday, Sept. 13, at 4:30 p.m., before traveling to Lexington on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m.
