HUTTO — TheHuttoHippos volleyball team lost its first district game of the season to the Round Rock Dragons in straight sets 3-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 10. The Hippos came into the game a perfect 3-0 in district play but were unable to overcome a tough opponent in the Dragons.
Despite losing in three sets, Hutto was competitive throughout the match losing in the first two sets 25-23, with the third set being 25-17.
Some top players for the Hippos were senior hitter Isabella Orton, senior middle hitter Delijah Bedford and freshman outside hitter Ellie Witcher all accounting for multiple kills.
Round Rock junior outside hitter Alta Wilson and senior setter Alexa Ankerstar led the Dragons as Wilson had 12 kills, while Ankerstar had 9.
Another key player for Round Rock was senior setter Coral Verrico, who led the Dragons with 13 serving aces. The Hippos fall to 15-14 overall and 0-2 versus the Dragons on the season, while Round Rock improves to 19-11. Hutto will look to improve its 3-1 district record versus Cedar Ridge at home on Friday, Sept. 13, before traveling to Stony Point on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
