Ducks seek first win against Lago Vista

Ducks seek first win against Lago Vista

The Taylor Ducks varsity football team (0-2) will head on the road to face the Lago Vista Vikings (1-1) on Friday, Sept. 13. The Ducks are coming off a 49-15 loss to Pflugerville Connally and will be looking to secure their first win of the season. The Vikings also lost to Connally, 44-26.

Taylor will aim for more consistency on offense, having averaged 21 points in their last two games. Lago Vista has done slightly better, averaging 24.5 points. The Ducks’ offense is led by senior running back Andrias Fisher, who has totaled 161 yards and one touchdown.

Senior quarterback Eli Laurence has thrown for 399 yards, two touchdowns and five interceptions. Freshman wide receiver Damien Calico is his top target with 169 receiving yards and a touchdown.

The key to the game will be turnovers, as the Ducks have committed nearly double-digit turnovers in just two games. They will need to clean up these mistakes if they want to come out victorious against a tough road opponent in the Vikings.

Defensively, Taylor leans on senior defensive tackle Kaddy Maravilla and junior linebacker Stephen Rogers.

Maravilla has 12 total tackles with three being for loss, while Rogers leads the team with 23 total tackles.

Lago Vista’s offense is led by junior quarterback Tripp Henderson, who has thrown for 280 yards and two touchdowns, while adding 85 yards and two more scores on the ground. His top target, junior wide receiver Brock Morton, has 158 receiving yards this season. These two players will challenge a Ducks defense that has given up 45.5 points per game.

On the other side, Lago Vista’s defense has allowed 32 points per game, led by senior cornerback Swayde Griffen.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Lago Vista High School Stadium.
