Taylor Ducks set for first road test against Pflugerville Connally

Taylor Ducks set for first road test against Pflugerville Connally

The Taylor Ducks Varsity football team will play its first away game of the season when it travels to Pflugerville Connally on Friday, Sept. 6. The Ducks are coming off a season opener loss to Gatesville 42-27.

The Cougars also lost its season opener getting blown out by Rouse 57-10.

Taylor will look to improve on a turnoverheavy first game plaguing the Ducks offense that racked up an impressive amount of yards with 554. Even after last week’s performances, it is still unclear who will start at quarterback for the Ducks as Taylor started two signal callers but came up with more questions than answers.

It will be a good time for the Ducks to start figuring out the quarterback situation as they take on a Cougar secondary that gave up over 300 yards last week.

Pflugerville Connally also gave up 252 yards on the ground so expect Taylor to run the ball often.

Some key players for the Ducks’s offense are senior runningback Andrias Fisher and freshman wide receiver Damien Calico who was a bright spot last week racking up 119 receiving yards to go along with a touchdown. Calico is starting to flourish into a young playmaker which could help Taylor as they look for reliable pass catchers.

The Ducks will also look to bounce back defensively as they gave up 432 total yards to the Hornet’s offense.

The main weakness of the Duck’s defense is stopping the run giving up 326 yards on the ground to Gatesville.

This matchup will be an opportunity for Taylor to gain some confidence defensively as the Cougars started the season flat offensively gaining just 212 total yards and 128 on the ground.

Some key players for the Duck’s defense are senior safety Ethan Flagg, senior defensive tackle Kaddy Maravilla, and junior defensive back Stephen Rogers.

Maravilla leads the team with 13 tackles, while Rogers had a pick-six last week that got the ducks on the board.

The game will be played at John. B Connally Stadium in Pflugerville at 7:30 p.m.
