Little bits of big news

CR 132 closed today

HUTTO — Nonresidents who use CR 132 to travel between Branson Boulevard and FM 3349 will need to find an alternate route Wednesday, Aug. 28. The road will be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to allow for trenching for a wastewater pipe.

Road access will be open to residents only.

The closure should last one day, officials said.

Next budget meeting scheduled

The final opportunity for residents to speak out about the city’s budget is coming up. Hutto officials will hold a public hearing on the fiscal year 2025 budget and 2024 tax rate Sept. 5 at City Hall, 500 W. Live Oak St.

The meeting begins with a workshop at 6 p.m. The council must approve a tax rate by Sept. 15 and the budget by Sept. 30.

Hutto Citizens University to start new session

Residents wishing to learn more about how the city runs can apply to Hutto Citizens University. It is a free nine-week program hosted by the municipal government. Classes start Sept. 10 and run 6-8 p.m. every Tuesday.

Applications are available on the city website at huttotx. gov/699/Hutto-Citizens-University.

The application period ends Aug. 30.

Used book swap scheduled

Rockabilly Brewing at 1133 CR 137 is holding a used-book exchange 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 5.

Gently used books of any genre are welcome. The free event is a one-to-one exchange, so attendees can leave with the same number of books they bring, planners said.

Any books left behind will be donated.

City to hold allabilities dance

The Hutto Parks and Recreation Department will host a Fall Adaptive Dance 7-9 p.m. Oct. 12. Billed as an evening of fun and inclusivity, the free event is open to middle school students and older.

'We are thrilled to host this Fall Adaptive Dance, which is all about embracing diversity and making sure everyone feels valued and included,' said Jeff White, director of Parks and Recreation. 'No matter your ability, this event is a chance to come together, have fun and celebrate our community's spirit.'

Formal attire is welcome, but attendees are encouraged to dress comfortably. The dance will feature a mix of music from popular hits to classic tunes.

The event is at Hutto City Hall, 500 W. Live Oak.
