GEORGETOWN — The Hutto High School varsity volleyball team opened its 2024 regular season Tuesday, Aug.
13 on the road and had a hard-fought match at Georgetown Gateway College Preparatory School. The Lady Hippos fell in three sets to the host Lady Gators: 15-25, 16-25 and 16-25.
Hutto was playoffbound in 2023 under Head Coach Jessica Martinez as the Lady Hippos were able to navigate through a tough district as the No.
4 seed. The Lady Hippos made the 6A bi-district playoffs and gave a topseed Mansfield High School team all it could handle but fell in three sets.
Although this team had quite a few key players graduate from last year’s squad, the Lady Hippos bring back several key pieces with seniors Isabella Orton, Macie Atkinson, Lyric Guillory, Deijah Bedford, Danielle Segura and Mya Smith.
“The strength of this team is we’re really bonded together,” Martinez said earlier this month in an interview with VYPE Austin.
“We know we all have one goal and that’s to win. Do whatever it takes to win.”
The Lady Hippos will continue matches over the weekend at the Round Rock Westwood Tournament and have their home opener Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 6:30 p.m. hosting San Marcos High School.
