The Duck Pond was the site of the Duck Day celebration Saturday, Aug. 10 as Taylor Independent School District hosted an introduction to high school programs and 2024 fall sports teams.
“I thought it was a good opportunity for all of us to get together in the community, support all of our Ducks and all of our programs,” Taylor Athletic Director and football Head Coach Earven Flowers said. “That’s something that’s a little bit different and important for our whole community.”
The high school band, Hi-Steppers, color guard and cheerleaders were introduced by name as well as football, volleyball, cross country and fall team tennis.
In addition to money being raised for Taylor programs, Ducks football also had practice in front of the crowd and a scrimmage in helmets and full pads.
“Today is our first day in pads,” Flowers said. “With that being said, there should be some pads slapping and hits. People all over the place, so hopefully our guys are ready to go. It’s been a good week so far.”
Taylor football will continue practice this week and the varsity team will have its first preseason scrimmage Friday, Aug. 16 at 6:30 p.m. on the road at Sealy High School.
Lady Ducks volleyball was scheduled Tuesday night to have its regular-season opener at Rockdale High School and will compete Aug. 15-17 at the Round Rock Westwood Tournament.
Taylor team tennis was also scheduled for its first match of the season Tuesday at Marble Falls High School, while the Ducks cross country program will have its first meet Aug. 16 at Rockdale.
