LEAVING THE NEST
HUTTO — Community is one word former Hutto Independent School District wide receiver Alex Green uses to describe his hometown.
“I love Hutto. I wouldn’t change where I went for anything,” Green said. “The town knows you and supports you. They are there for you.”
Since he was in middle school, Green knew he would play Division I football someday. Despite his confidence, he still had to stay focused on the path to success, navigating expectations while facing the challenges of being a high school student.
“You have to stay on top of things because you are going to be treated differently in the school whether you like it or not. People are going to look up to you and others will even hate,” Green said. “You just have to make sure you keep your head on straight and stay humble.”
Green experienced tremendous success with the Hippos football team, breaking records his senior season accounting for 2,056 yards and 19 touchdowns. Despite his on-field achievements, he also experienced significant personal growth off the field.
“Being a better leader and trying to do things for the community that I did not do as a freshman,” Green said. “I’ve learned that you have to be careful about what you’re doing because you are under a microscope.”
This fall, Green will fulfill his dream of playing college football with the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes. He acknowledges that he could not have achieved this milestone without the support of his high school trainer and coaching staff.
“They pushed me to be my best and to never be satisfied, so they helped me a lot,” Green said.
Football has always been an important part of Green’s life, but he also understands the value of earning a college degree and prioritizing education above all else. He plans to major in marketing with a minor in sports management.
“I want to be the best football player I can be, but I also want to get my degree, so that’s what is coming first,” Green said.
As Green begins this new journey, his high school success and personal growth reflect his dedication. With the support of his community, Green is well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
