Lady Ducks take tops at Riesel

It was all green on St. Patrick’s Day as the Taylor varsity girls track team had the competition seeing green at the Riesel Indian Invitational last Thursday, March 17.

It was all green on St. Patrick’s Day as the Taylor varsity girls track team had the competition seeing green at the Riesel Indian Invitational last Thursday, March 17.

The Lady Ducks finished first overall as a team and took first place in five of their eight events.

“I am so proud of these young ladies,” said Coach Shelli Cobb. “We took only 10 girls to this spring break meet, and they won the whole thing by themselves.”

The Lady Ducks finished first in the 4x100 relay with Destiny Lewis, Zakaya Frederick, Emma Whitsel and Tyronzia Lewis and a time of 51.03, the 4x200 relay with Destiny Lewis, Whitsel, Aiyanna Thompson and Tyronzia Lewis and a time of 1:48.08 and the 4x400 relay with Aiyanna Thompson, Destiny Lewis, Azalie Balusek and Tyronzia Lewis and a time of 4:20.27.

In individual performances, Taylor took the top spot in the 800-meter run with Aiyanna Thompson’s time of 2:29.71 and in the 100-meter hurdles with Whitsel finishing and a time of 15.75

Zari Thompson finished fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 68.13. Ahjalei Davis took fourth in the shotput with a distance of 29-8” and third in the discus with a distance of 87-11 ½.

“All three of our relays and our 100-meter hurdles have qualified for the Texas Relays on March 25-26,” said Cobb.
