Public hearing set for iMarket

A long-awaited employment center catering to the area’s emerging semiconductor industry is moving forward for the Thursday, July 25, City Council meeting.

In addition, other public hearings are scheduled to consider a new subdivision and lowering speed limits in a school zone.

Officials said council members will hold a public hearing on iMarket, a proposed 212-acre employment center located at Carlos G. Parker Boulevard and FM 112.

According to reports, as an employment center, iMarket will support the production of semiconductors and other advanced manufacturing facilities. It will be located near existing water and wastewater facilities.

Officials said much of the area’s growth is being driven by the emergence of the multibillion- dollar Samsung Austin Semiconductor facility in southwest Taylor.

In other business, city leaders will:

• Hold a public hearing regarding a proposed new neighborhood plan for Turner Springs, a 99-acre development located at 450 CR 398.

• Hold a public hearing on a proposed amendment to the Envision Taylor Comprehensive Plan to include the creation of an employment district covering about 1,500 acres east of CR 101, south of CR 395 and CR 398, west of Justin Lane and north of U.S. 79.

• Introduce an ordinance lowering the speed limit from 65 mph to 55 mph on FM 973 near Taylor High School and implementing a 35-mph school speed zone when lights are flashing.

The council meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 400 Porter St.
