Community comes together for students

Community organizations are rallying to the aid of local families facing hardship as a new school year starts. Parents will have several opportunities to receive free school supplies and haircuts so their students can start the year with what they need to succeed.

“I am deeply grateful to our local charities for their generous provision of backpacks and school supplies for Taylor’s youth,” said Councilman Robert Garcia.

“Their unwavering support is not only meeting a critical need, but also empowering our children to succeed and thrive in their education. Their contributions are truly appreciated and make a lasting difference in our community.”

School vaccination clinic

Jolly Giant Pediatrics and Williamson County and Cities Health District 4:30 to 7 p.m. July 31 at Taylor Independent School District Event Center, 3101 N.

Main, Vaccinations for kids ages 5 to 18. Some families may be eligible for free vaccines, and the clinic will also accept private insurance, private pay, Medicaid and CHIP. Parents are asked to bring the students’ immunization records.

“We’re going to be there until we get everyone taken care of. The whole point is you don’t have to drive to another town to get the vaccines that your kids need to go back to school,” said Dr.

Daniel Dvoskin of Jolly Giant Pediatrics, 2004 Old Granger Road in Taylor.

Dvoskin said that getting an appointment for childhood vaccinations can be challenging, sometimes taking months to be seen and requiring driving to a neighboring city. This clinic will allow families to get the shots their students need at one time and in one convenient place.

“Everybody who needs something to catch up or just routine vaccinations, we’ll be able to give right there, and on top of that we’ll also be able to give the optional vaccinations like Meningitis B or HPV,” he said. “If you have someone who is not of school age yet and you still want to bring them I will also be bringing the vaccine for your little kiddos. We’ll be able to take care of everyone literally 0 to 21 years of age — whatever you may need to catch up we’ll be able to administer it and get you taken care of.”
