On the heels of backto- back district titles, the Taylor Lady Ducks basketball team will have a new coach on the bench this season.

Last week, Azzie Knox was named the new head coach for the Lady Ducks. This comes after former head coach Lawrence Bailey accepted a position with the Cedar Ridge Lady Raiders. Knox formerly worked as an assistant at Belton High School.

Knox faces the challenge of maintaining the high standards set by the Lady Ducks, who have dominated their district, winning 24 of their last 25 district games over the past two seasons. However, Athletic Director Earven Flowers is confident in her ability to sustain the team's success. Flowers, who grew up with Knox at Temple High School, recalls her unparalleled work ethic and dedication to the game.

'I know she was a gym rat growing up. I know her family well; her dad and mom were both former coaches. I’ve seen her grow up in the gym,' Flowers said. 'I've seen what she has done as a coach, taking over the women's [American Basketball Association] team and working her way up from Belton Middle School to the varsity assistant position.'

With an extensive coaching background, Knox has led a women's ABA team, worked with the Atlanta Angels and Rhema Bible College and guided multiple AAU programs, including the AD Elite and the Central Texas Comets.

Flowers believes that Knox's transition to head coach will be seamless, given her championship mindset, which aligns perfectly with the team's mentality.

'We have a good program; they are champions, and their mindset reminds me a lot of hers. I think they are going to mesh well, and she is going to continue to get everything out of them to sustain our success here,' Flowers said.

Knox will take over the Lady Ducks, who are in a prime position to secure their third consecutive district championship for the 2024-2025 season.
