Taylor municipal government’s human resources director recently discussed herself and how she manages human capital in the city.

LaShon Gros, whose last name is pronounced without the “s,” sat down with publisher Jason Hennington on “Taylor Talk with Jason Hennington” Monday, March 14. The monthly show is live on the Taylor Press’ Facebook page.

In addition to her background, which includes joining the U.S. Army for 20 years, Gros discussed what she does for the city.

“A lot of people think human resources and you think that is the person that is there to fire people, but that’s not what human resources is,” said Gros, who acknowledged they stlll have personnel policies and procedures they manage. “I’m also responsible for helping with the culture of the city, helping our directors hire who they need to hire, administering employee benefits and compensation. Just about anything that you can think about that you need to deal with the city for a person, I’m responsible for overseeing it.”

Since moving to Taylor, the human resources director says she’s been excited working for the city. “I have enjoyed …

“I have enjoyed … when I come to work and being out in the community,” said Gros, “and as an HR office, (we’re) trying to do our best for our employees so you get the best of them when they provide you service.”

Gros was the show’s fourth guest after City Manager Brian LaBorde, Deputy City Manager Jeff Jenkins and Chief of Police Henry Fluck. April’s guest is to be Tyler Bybee, parks and recreation director.

The show is scheduled to broadcast on the first Monday of every month at noon, with this month’s broadcast being an exception. The show complements the Taylor Press’ other live show, “Around the Watercooler,” which airs at 11:15 a.m. Thursdays and primarily covers local sports along with other topics.
