Kerley Paris bound

EUGENE, OREGON — A 9.88 second time was all Fred Kerley needed to give himself another chance at an Olympic gold medal.

Kerley finished third in the 100-meter dash at the Olympic Track and Field Trials Sunday inn Eugene, Oregon.

“It’s go time. The season started today, it’s on an up forward,” Kerley said in a press conference after the race.

Noah Lyles and Kenny Bednarek finished ahead of the former Duck with times of 9.83 and 9.87, respectively.

“Competition is the best thing we do,” Kerley said about rivalries with other Team USA runners. “That’s what we’re here for is competition, so rivalries are there, but competition is what we love the best.”

Kerley said at the Olympics viewers should be prepared as the runners will “be ready to put on a show.”

“The world ain’t ready. But I am,” Kerley said in an Instagram post Monday, June 24.

This will be Kerley’s second appearance at the Olympics. In 2020, he won a silver medal in the 100 and ran a personal best in the race. He was edged out of the No. 1 spot by Lamont Marcell Jacobs.
