Catholic School holds graduation festivities

St. Mary’s Catholic School held ceremonies last week to honor its seven senior Rams.

On Saturday, May 25, St. Mary’s celebrated its high school Baccalaureate Mass alongside the St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Parish community at the weekly 5:00 p.m. Saturday Vigil Mass.

They were happy to be joined by the Vicar General of the Diocese of Austin, Very Rev. James Misko, visiting priest Rev. Joseph Nisari, former St. Mary’s seminarian Deacon Ladd Spears and Deacon Marc Griffin in the celebration of the Mass.

Following the Baccalaureate Mass, the school held its 2024 commencement ceremony. Representing the Catholic Schools Office of the Diocese of Austin was assistant superintendent of schools, Kelly Laster.

The commencement guest speaker this year was Very Rev. Keith Koehl, former St. Mary’s Pastor and current St. Thomas More pastor in Austin.

The graduation ceremony also included the traditional Salutatorian address given by Anthony Navarro-Salazar and the Valedictorian address given by Cody Higgs. “We want to thank everyone who made these special events possible and for the tremendous continued support of our school and parish family,” a St. Mary’s Catholic School statement said.

This year’s graduating class consisted of Brady Altman, Gage Garsee, Cody Higgs, Anthony Navarro-Salazar, Nhu Y Nguyen, Victoria Sheffy and Sophia Villarreal.

Cody Higgs, the 2024 St. Mary’s Catholic High School valedictorian, accepts his academic recognition award from Andrew Kinney, head of upper school.
Former St. Mary’s Pastor and current St. Thomas More - Austin pastor, Very Rev. Keith Koehl, addresses the St. Mary’s graduates as the commencement guest speaker with words of encouragement and inspiration.
