Celebration of life for Garcia Sunday

Taylor High School is scheduled to honor a sophomore this weekend who was taken from the community “too soon.”

The school is hosting a celebration of life for Brandon Lee Garcia Sunday, June 2, at 5:30 p.m. at the Duck Pond.

Garcia played for the Los Patos soccer team before he passed away in a car accident Sunday, May 26.

“This is a tough loss for our community, school and all of his teammates and coaches,” Taylor Independent School District Superintendent Jennifer Garcia-Edwardsen said. “Brandon was the ultimate team player with a smile that lit up the room and a great kid who loved to have fun.”

The celebration will be held on the field, with relatives, coaches, teammates and classmates giving remarks at the ceremony.

Coach Jose Flores, who now coaches the girls’ varsity soccer team but coached Garcia in middle school, described him as being extremely coachable.

“He would listen to everything the coaches needed to say to him,” Flores said. “He was one of those kids that would listen the first time, you didn’t have to repeat yourself. He always had a smile.”

Flores added that Garcia regularly attended voluntary open field practices.

According to Councilman Robert Garcia, a group of lowriding cars and trucks will be parked at the stadium for the celebration of life since Brandon Garcia liked cars.

“It’s like a piece of Brandon will be there for his celebration of life,” the council member said. “I want to help bring some of those memories.”

RIGHT: Friends and family members of Brandon Lee Garcia said he could light up a room with his smile and that he was an unbelievable student and athlete. A celebration of life will be held for Garcia Sunday June 2, at 5:30 p.m. at the Duck Pond football field.
