Power Struggle

Power Struggle

Taylor experiences rain, loses electricity

Scattered showers in Taylor this week left some residents without power, forced events to cancel and blew a handful of tree limbs down.

According to the National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio, the Taylor Municipal Airport recorded 2.37 inches of precipitation from a period beginning just before the start of Thursday, May 30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 31.

Oncor crews worked around parts of central Texas this week to restore power to homes and businesses.

“Lightning, rain and flooding caused by the most recent storms have caused access issues and slowed the pace of our restoration,” an Oncor update reads. “We recognize the frustration and challenges our customers face without power, especially after such devastating storms, and we appreciate your patience.”

The Taylor Public Library closed for a couple of days this week due to a loss of power, but reopened Thursday once service was restored, assistant public information officer Kendra Maness said.

Maness said according to Taylor Public Works, there was only one callout regarding a tree on Lake Drive, no other reports of damage were made. The weather forecast also caused Taylor Parks and Recreation to cancel its Summer Kick-Off party, which was scheduled for Friday, May 31. “Your safety is our top priority, and we want to ensure everyone stays safe and dry,” the department said on Facebook.
