Coupland Civic Organization plans depot repair

Barbara Piper, Depot/ Caboose coordinator for the Coupland Civic Organization, has announced plans for repairs at the Depot, including the roof, wooden siding, plumbing, interior and exterior painting and a new air conditioner. The CCO is a non-profit organization that owns the historic Depot. Funds from the organization’s fundraisers go toward maintaining and repairing the Depot and caboose.

The next CCO event will be National Night Out that will be held Aug. 6 on the Depot grounds. Residents enjoy a hot dog supper and hear speeches from officials from the Sheriff’s Department, ESD #10, Constable’s office, County Commissioners office, Coupland Independent School District and more.

Coupland School

Coupland ISD is now accepting transfer applications for the 2024-2025 school year.

The month of May has been very busy with events and field trips. On May 8, the fourth grade went on a field trip to hike along the Brazos River and learn about life in the 1850s. May 9 marked the seventh grade field trip to Camp Mabry and the Military Forces Museum, plus the art show from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. On May 10, the sixth grade took a field trip to the Science Mill.

The BOOK IT! field trip was May 21. Also on May 21, was pre-k and kindergarten round up.

The fifth grade went to the Jersey Barnyard.

The end of year awards were May 23, along with the traditional, always popular variety show. Eighth grade graduation was that evening. The eighth grade honor students are Logan Middaugh, valedictorian; Noah Schultz, salutatorian; Sarah Herring, historian; and Freddy Macedo Alvarado, fourth in class.

The school recognized the retirement of teacher Deanna Snell who dedicated 27 years to teaching, 22 of them in Coupland.

St. Peter’s Church of Coupland

At St. Peter’s, Coffee Connections meets every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the conference room. The Adult Sunday School class meets at 9 a.m. on Sunday for coffee, and discussion begins at 9:15 a.m.

On April 14, the church council was installed in a ceremony conducted by Pastoral Representative Charlotte Albert. Council members are Judy Downing, Anita Holubec, Carolyn Haverland, Janet Doss, Bill Albert, Danny Smith, Michele Dupy and Prissy Rumel.

Pastor Scott Wasdin has resigned his post at St. Peter’s. Guest pastors are filling in while the church is searching for an interim pastor. Guest pastors for May were May 5, Rev. Gerry Metzger, May 12, Rev. Arlene Turner, May 19, Rev. Scott Martin and May 26, Rev. Peter Bauer.

St. Peter’s hosted a Coupland Community Sing-Along and Picnic Sunday, April 28, at 10:15 a.m. Because of the weather, the picnic had to be moved indoors, but it was a success with great music and delicious food.

Rumel organized the music. Musicians were Steve Mansolo on keyboard, David Cappolino on sax, Steve Johnson on bass, Allen Buie on guitar, and Rumel, Paul Johnson, Heather Shuttles, Tessa Strider, Martha Poldrack, Martin Garrison, Krista Poldrack and Emma Leigh Maciazek playing ukuleles.

Bodie Doss and family provided hamburgers, Anita Holubec organized the food, Dean Rumel offered a Coupland poem and Pastor Martin Garrison gave the closing prayer.

The Seniors Luncheon was held May 21. Peter Wabbel prepared the meal and volunteers helped serve.

New Sweden Church

New Sweden hosts game nights Thursdays at 7 p.m. May 21 was the church council meeting, which is held once a month. The monthly potluck meal was May 26. The bi-weekly bible study will be May 28. The worship and music meeting will be June 6 at 5 p.m. Also on June 6 will be ladies bible study at 6:30 p.m. On June 10 at 7 p.m., the Evangelism meeting will be held.

The New Sweden annual Heritage Day was April 20 at the Heritage Center and the Parish Hall. There were tours of the Heritage Center, Swedish community displays, visits to Manda School and Maypole dance. A Swedish meal was at 5 p.m., and at 6 p.m. there was a program in the sanctuary.

Type Church

Type Church holds Sunday worship service at 10:30 a.m.

“Join us for family game night June 12 at 6 p.m,” Pastor Ryan Evans said.

The April 28 sermon was based on Ephesians 2:-10, “from death to life.” Bible study on the book of Revelation is ongoing.

Type Church is east of Coupland at 1200 County Road 466.
