HUTTO — As Hutto High School students attend their last week of classes, the school’s athletics leaders are reflecting on the school year.
On Monday, May 20, the Hutto Hippos Athletics Facebook page posted a graphic of the 2023-2024 statistics. The accomplishments included academic allstate totals, all-district individuals numbers, certain qualifying teams and athletes and signees count.
Athletics Director Brad LaPlante described the Hippos as having a “fantastic year.”
“When you’re talking about team sports, (almost) every team sport made the playoffs,” LaPlante said. “You’re talking about volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball. That’s huge for our athletes, our town, community and high school … It just shows the body of work that our awesome kids and coaches are putting in.”
According to the shared infographic, HHS 35 first team all-district honorees, three regional qualifying teams, 11 state qualifying athletes, two state placing individuals, 27 second team all-district honorees, 23 honorable mention all-district honorees, 58 academic all-district honorees and one academic first team all-state
individual. LaPlante highlighted the statistic of 21 seniors signing to play a sport at the collegiate level as something he is the most proud of.
“I think it says number one we have good character kids, because you don’t go play college ball without good character” LaPlante said. “Number two, we have kids doing a great job in the classroom. I think a third thing is that our kids are maximizing their time in the weight room.”
The athletics director said watching the senior class this year has been particularly rewarding since his son, Carson, is graduating this year.
He said he’s watched the class compete together at different campuses for 10 years.
“They’ve just been a joy to watch from elementary age sports, through Farley, through Hutto Middle School, to high school and now to graduation,” LaPlante said. “We really think these young men and women who are going on to the collegiate level are going to be very successful and represent us very well.”
Hutto High School holds its graduation ceremony Thursday, May 23 at 8 p.m. at Hutto Memorial Stadium.
