SAN ANTONIO — Thrall High School junior Payton Gilmore competed at the UIL 2A state tennis tournament this past week.
After advancing from both the district and region meets, Gilmore played at the Blossom Tennis Center in San Antonio Thursday, May 16.
Gilmore faced Delane Syler of Miles High School in the state, but dropped a 6-1, 6-4 match and was eliminated.
Thrall Independent School District posted on Facebook congratulating Gilmore on a “great season.”
Gilmore previously credited his success to the amount of practice he’s put in.
“My coaches work hard with me,” he said during an Around the Watercooler interview. “Brayden Michna hits a lot with me. There’s a lot of time that goes into the sport to get better.”
Gilmore added that he appreciates his teammates and coaches who supported him to get him to the state level.
