The school year is almost over, which means youth football preparations are beginning to be made.
Starting May 18, parents can register their children to play for the Taylor Youth Ducks.
The team is doing registration online at www. tayloryouthducks.com through a partnership with Jersey Watch.
Quincy Griffin, head coach of the Taylor Youth Ducks varsity team, said the program has high expectations for participation numbers.
“Last season, Taylor Youth Ducks served 142 kids in our program and this season we will most definitely exceed that number,” Griffin said. “Taylor Youth Ducks is the only football and cheer program in Taylor and we offer the ultimate youth experience.”
The registration fee for the two flag divisions, rookie flag and pee wee flag, is $80. Meanwhile, the registration fee for the tackle divisions, junior varsity tackle and varsity tackle, is $130.
Hopeful parents will download the 2024 registration form from the website, fill it out and bring the form along with a copy of their child’s birth certificate for new players, their last report card from the end of the school year and a sports physical.
Physical forms are available on the website if needed.
Flag players will need to purchase their football cleats and a black soft helmet. Flag players can purchase their own mouth guard but the team will provide a standard one.
Tackle players will need to purchase football cleats, practice integrated tackle pants and a practice jersey, Griffin said. The program will provide the helmet, shoulder pads and a standard mouth guard, but parents are welcome to purchase their child’s own equipment.
JV tackle wears a black helmet and Varsity tackle wears a white helmet.
Practice begins Thursday, Aug. 1.
