Tigers fall to Mustangs

Tigers fall to Mustangs

The Mumford Mustangs (26-6) jumped out to a 6-0 lead and topped the Thrall Tigers (22-10-1) 7-2 to bring the Tigers’ season to an end in the area round of the playoffs.

Mumford took advantage of five walks in the top half of the first inning to push four runs across the plate. The Mustangs managed just a single hit, but the damage was done. The Mustangs added two more runs in the fourth. The visitors knocked out backto- back doubles and picked up another walk to take a 6-0 lead.

Carter Bradford finally got the Tigers on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Ty Bradford drew a one-out walk and Carter Bradford took a 2-2 pitch over the right field fence for a two-run homerun that trimmed the lead to 6-2.

The Mustangs added another run to their lead in the sixth inning to seal the win.

Mumford’s Jacob Castorena handcuffed the Tigers, holding the home team to two hits through seven innings. He also struck out 16 batters, while walking four.

Maverick McAllister took the loss for the Tigers surrendering four runs in the just one-third of the first inning. Anthony Sandoval and Jack Gustafson came in as relief, but Thrall’s offensive troubles kept the Tigers from rallying.
