A longtime Taylor resident is settling into his new role.
Raymond Chavana, a former pressman at the Granite Media Partners printing press, was recently hired as the Taylor Press’ sales and marketing consultant.
A 1988 graduate of Taylor High School, Chavana is familiar with the newspaper and its role in the community.
“I grew up reading the paper and having it delivered to my home,” Chavana said. “Back when I was growing up, the news was the newspaper. There was no other media out there. When I think of the Taylor Press, I hold that to a high respect, high regard and much respect.”
Prior to joining GMP, parent company of the Taylor Press, Chavana worked in quality assurance for Coca-Cola and Tito’s Vodka in Austin.
Chavana said he also has years of experience in sales, which he hopes is an asset to the publication.
He said he looks forward to both helping established businesses fulfill their advertising needs as well as giving companies new to Taylor a chance to spread the word of their arrival.
“I was born and raised here, I know Taylor pretty well,” Chavana said. “But I also know Taylor is changing … I look forward to getting out, meeting those new people and helping them with what their advertising needs are.”
Jason Hennington, area editor of the Taylor Press, said he is excited for Chavana to further the relationship between community businesses and the Taylor Press.
“We’re happy to have Raymond on our team,” Hennington said. “He’s a Taylor guy, so he knows the community, he’s well known and has the personality to do well in the position. He is going to be a great fit for us.”
