China Spring and Taylor are matching up in the postseason once again.

The Cougars, who are the defending state champions, have ended the Ducks’ season in each of the last three playoffs, including in the regional finals last year.

Now, the two programs square off in the area round. Coach Kale McQuillen is not mincing words of how important a series victory is for the Ducks.

“We definitely want to win this series,” McQuillen said. “It has been long overdue. China Spring has had a good run the last several years and now it’s our turn.”

The first game of the series is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, May 9, in Cameron. The second game of the series is at 5 p.m. Friday, May 10. If a seriesdeciding rubber match is necessary, it will be played thirty minutes after game two ends.

Taylor advanced to the area round after rolling past Houston Scarborough Thursday, May 2, in 14-0 shutout fashion.

Meanwhile, China Spring picked up a two-game series sweep over Jarrell to get to this point.

“This is a match up that we all have been anticipating,” McQuillen said. “We have had a great week of practice and most importantly the team is locked in and focused. We are excited for this match up, we aren’t going to do anything special, just play the game that we know how to play and have fun with it.”

The winner of the series will face either Burnet or Giddings in the regional quarterfinals.
