MANOR — The Ducks finished district play in shutout fashion.
The Taylor High School varsity baseball team concluded the 2024 regular season with a 8-0 victory over Manor New Tech on the road Tuesday, April 23.
“I thought overall we played well,” Head Coach Kale McQuillen said. “We had a few errors that we were able to address during practice.”
Junior Nick Treuter scored off of a senior Aiden Aguero double to center field in the second inning to get Taylor on the board.
The following inning, senior Ayden Gutierrez broke the game open with a double with the bases loaded. His hit brought in three runners and made the score 4-0 in favor of the Ducks.
Treuter later added on another run in the fifth with a ground ball single to third base. A line drive single by senior Chris Perez to center field the next inning brought the score to 6-0.
Taylor added on two scores in the seventh to finish with the 8-0 score.
On the mound, senior Devin Valdez struck out 12 Titan batters in his six innings of action, allowing three hits and three walks during his outing. Senior Braylan Alderete pitched a scoreless seventh inning to maintain the shutout.
Tuesday’s win marks the Ducks’ sixth in a row, something the team’s head coach said he thinks can continue in the postseason.
“Having this win under our belt gives us the momentum that we need to get us through the first round of playoffs,” McQuillen said.
Taylor is tentatively scheduled to play Houston Scarborough in a playoff matchup Thursday, May 2, in Waller.
