HUTTO — Hutto Independent School District is looking for a new leader just seven months after filling the position.
During the Thursday, April 26 meeting of the school board, trustees accepted the resignation of Superintendent Raúl Peña.
President Billie Logiudice announced in a letter to students and parents that Cara Malone, assistant superintendent of human resources, will take over as acting superintendent in the meantime.
“We have a great leadership team in place that will continue the positive momentum as we make decisions in the best interest of the district and for students, while staying focused on our strategic plan and goals,” President Billie Logiudice said. “The Board of trustees, Dr. Malone and the Hutto ISD Executive Leadership Team remain united and steadfast in our commitment to serving Hippo Nation.”
Trustees’ motion to accept Peña’s resignation granted the outgoing superintendent a leave of absence until the change goes into effect July 31.
Hutto ISD has not provided any information about the circumstances behind the resignation.
Previously, Peña was named the lone finalist in August after a 13-week superintendent search. JG Consulting, the hiring firm that selected the superintendent, collected community feedback to build a leadership profile for the position before making the hire.
Hutto ISD said Malone has headed methods of creating career pathways for future teachers and earned statewide attention for her teacher apprenticeship program.
The district told its staff that it will keep them informed during this transition process as they work to name the next superintendent.
