KINGSVILLE — A pair of Tigerettes are going to state in track.
Both Thrall High School and Granger High School competed in the 2A Region 4 track and field championship held at Javelina Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M University-Kingsville Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20.
Melania Grissom advanced to state in the long jump and triple jump events. Grissom recorded a personal record of 17 feet and 11 inches in the long jump, which resulted in a third-place finish and a wildcard spot.
In the triple jump, Grissom finished as runner-up with a mark of 36 feet and 2.25 inches.
Avery Koonce made it in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Koonce placed second in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash, with respective times of 12:54 and 25.85.
Grissom and Koonce will travel to Austin for the UIL 2A State Championships May 2-5.
Both Thrall and Granger had multiple standout athletes take on the region meet this past weekend.
Thrall Tigerettes 3rd – Avery Koonce in the pole vault with a mark of nine feet and nine inches. 3rd – Cali Johnson in triple jump with a mark of 33 feet and 7.25 inches. 4th – Avery Koonce, Kassi Jackson, Melania Grissom, Nevaeh Irvin in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 49.82. 4th – Brynn Leschber in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.66. 4th – Nevaeh Irvin in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:00.86. 8th – Nevaeh Irvin in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.32.

3rd – Dawson Meiske in discus after a throw of 148 feet and ten inches. 3rd – Landon Gregory in the 400 meter run with a time of 50.80. 8th – Eric Smith in the high jump with a mark of five feet and ten inches. 9th – Steven Flournoy-Walker in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:11.72 Granger Lady Lions 11th – Montana Moore, Jasmine Leamer, Carli Cadena and Brooklyn Gaswint in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:30.74.
Granger Lions 8th – Lucas Matta in the 400-meter run with a time of 53.75. 16th – Kyles Welles in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:35.49.
