A ceremony was held April 11 to unveil the new name of the Williamson County Expo Center Pavilion in Taylor. The Commissioners Court approved naming the pavilion the Judge Dan A. Gattis Pavilion due to his 12 years of dedicated service as county judge and his lifelong dedication to the education of youth in agriculture. In addition, Gattis was instrumental in the development and expansion of the Williamson County Expo Center.
“There are many things that Judge Gattis accomplished,” said Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell. “The Commissioners Court recently voted to name this pavilion in his honor, and there are many reasons why. He made all of his decisions looking to better the future of Williamson County’s residents and most importantly, to create a better future for our children.”
In 2013, under Gattis’s leadership, Williamson County voters approved a $40 million park bond initiative that included the first phase of the expansion of the Expo Center. After leaving office, Gattis continued to be involved in events at the Expo Center, including serving on the board of the Williamson County Fair and Rodeo.
The pavilion is a 44,000-square-foot multi-use facility that can accommodate a variety of events from livestock shows and cattle sales to fundraisers and rodeos.
“This is a great honor and I really do appreciate it,” said former Williamson County Judge Dan A. Gattis. “I am proud of being from Williamson County and having our name up here.”
