GIDDINGS — The Taylor High School varsity softball team came up just short Friday, April 12 despite a valiant effort in a 10-8 loss at Giddings High School.
The Lady Ducks got on the board in the first inning with an RBI double by Enicia Quintanilla and plated another run in the second frame with an RBI double from Kayleigh Page to make it 2-0.
Taylor continued its surge on offense in the third inning with an RBI double by Anaih Arroyo, an RBI single by Grace Yanez and Page’s second RBI double made it 5-0 over the Lady Buffaloes.
After Giddings rallied for five runs in the bottom of the third frame, Taylor took a 6-5 lead on an RBI double by Quintanilla in the top of the fourth. The Lady Buffaloes would again tie the game in the bottom of the frame but the Lady Ducks responded with a run-scoring groundout by Oglesby in the fifth inning to go up 7- 6.
Following a go-ahead home run by Giddings to make it 8-7, Taylor was able to tie the game again as Camryn Nunamaker hit a solo home run to knot the contest at 8-8 in the sixth frame. However, after Giddings took a 10-8 lead in the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Ducks were unable to rally in the seventh and came up just short.
Taylor (11-18 overall, 2-7 4A-District 22 record), under Head Coach McKensey Brentham, had its final home game of the season Tuesday against Smithville High School as the Lady Ducks celebrated senior night for Nunamaker and Page.
