HUTTO — Angela Lewis, Hutto’s City Secretary since February 2022, passed away last weekend. No details about her death have been released, and the family has asked for privacy.
“The city of Hutto is grieving our significant loss, and asks you to join us in our emotional support and respect for the privacy of her family,” the city posted on social media.
Lewis was a highly-qualified professional who had achieved multiple goals in her career. She held Certified Municipal Clerk and Certified Public Manager designations. She earned her master of business administration degree in human resources management from Walden University and her bachelor of science in social psychology from Park University.
“Angela was a true professional. I am deeply saddened by this. I enjoyed working with Angela over the past couple of years. She was the best city secretary that I had the pleasure to work with since I was first elected in 2019,” Mayor Mike Snyder posted.
As city secretary, Lewis was an interface between the government and the public. Her responsibilities included assisting the City Council, enhancing public participation in the government, improving public access to municipal records and safeguarding the city elections and records management process. She was a fixture at City Council meetings, quietly taking the official minutes as the meetings often lasted past midnight.
“I was saddened to learn that our amazing city secretary Angela Lewis passed away this weekend. I pray that her family will be comforted at this difficult time,” posted Mayor Pro Tem Peter Gordon.
Lewis had served as a city clerk in San Jacinto, California, for several years before coming back to Texas, where she considered her home. Her experience and dedication to her career helped in her role of keeping the city compliant with the Open Meetings Act, Public Information Act and other legal responsibilities.
No information regarding funeral or memorial services had been released by press time.
