HUTTO — The Hutto High School varsity baseball team picked up its second 6A-District 12 win of the season Thursday, April 11 as the Hippos came from behind in a 7-3 victory hosting Copperas Cove High School.

Down 3-0 after the first inning, the Hippos got on the board in the bottom of the second frame as sophomore Aidan Eierdam drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs to get within 3-1.

Hutto scored its second run of the game in the third inning as junior Jayden Saxbury stole third base and scored on an error to make it 3-2 in favor of the Bulldawgs.

That score would hold until the bottom of the sixth frame as the Hutto offense got to work with a furious rally. Hippos senior Zachary Torres tied the game 3-3 on an RBI single and then got three bases-loaded walks from senior Aiden Torres-Pollard, junior Roman Grametbauer and junior Jackson Skorzewski. After Hutto senior Ace Del Bosque reached on a fielder’s choice that brought home another run to make it 7-3, the pitching held strong to prevent a Copperas Cove rally in the seventh frame.

Saxbury got the win on the mound for the Hippos as he pitched six strong innings with five strikeouts and got settled in after allowing three runs in the first inning, while senior Julian Maese pitched the final frame with one strikeout to preserve the win.

Hutto (9-16 overall, 2-5 district record), under Head Coach Edward Stringer, played Friday at home versus district foe Bryan High School and will be on the road Saturday for a non-district game at Round Rock High School. The Hippos will resume district play Tuesday, April 16 at 7 p.m. in a rematch at Bryan.
