Hearing Kindness

GOOD NEWS
Hearing Kindness

Paul Leal, our constable for Williamson County Precinct 4, gave a graduation speech for the Constable Citizens Academy Class that I want to share with you.

He told us back in the day he was a school bus driver and to make some extra money, they did field trips. One of the trips he was assigned to was to bring a single student to a track meet at Burger Stadium in Austin. The student was blind and Paul’s job was to bring him to the stadium, find his coach and hand him over. After that, he was free to do whatever he wanted.

“I decided to stick around,” Leal said. The stadium was full of family members and spectators who where there to cheer for the runners.

All of the runners were blind. They were dropped off by their coaches at the starting line and started running once they heard the start shot. Meanwhile the coaches went to the finish lines and once the runners took off, you could hear the coaches scream “here, here, here,” over and over again.

The lines were straight and all runners run straight and stayed within their lanes. No one tripped over the other, no one changed their course. They kept running towards the voice of their coaches while the crowd screamed and cheered.

What a relationship you have to develop. How much quality time do you have to spend with someone to confidently run towards the voice that keeps you safe and cheers for you?

“We all have this voice in us that keeps us straight,” Leal reminded us.

Do we spend enough time to listen? Are we trusting our gut, our inner voice enough to drown out all the other voices that want to lead us astray?

Listen to your voice, trust your gut. It knows the way.

“Shoutout to Kitty Downey. She is an amazing asset to our furry community members. We, Texas Critter Crusaders, have been so overwhelmed with injured cat requests and most of them have been feral or untamed community cats. Without Kitty being able to trap for us during the day, there are at least five cats that would not be alive and healthy living their best community cat life right now.”

“Having Moss True Value Hardware is a precious gift. In an increasingly impersonal world, their dependable efforts to be helpful and friendly in all situations has been consistently appreciated. And the fact that it’s been a Taylor staple for over 50 years with the owner, Brad, growing up helping his father’s business makes it extra special. I always come away with what I need.”
