District boosts students before big test

Taylor Independent School District campuses were hoping their students would shoot for the STAARs after the total solar eclipse passed.

At Main Street Elementary School, teachers, staff and students wrapped up the school day with a pep rally Monday, April 8. The pep rally was meant to encourage the young students to exceed on the standardized test.

The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness has its tests scheduled sporadically throughout April and May.

MSE’s pep rally, which took place in the school’s auditorium, included skits and trivia games.

Naomi Pasemann Elementary School also hosted a pep rally to get students excited for the STAAR test. NPE’s pep rally was held in their gymnasium.

According to the Texas Education Agency, the STAAR is a standardized academic achievement test designed to measure the extent to which a student has learned and is able to apply the defined knowledge and skills in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills at each tested grade, subject and course.
