Smoke from a heating, ventilation and air conditioning unit drew firefighters to the Sonic Drive-In in Taylor Monday, March 7.

There was minimal damage with no reported injuries.

At 3:14 p.m., the Taylor Fire Department was called to the restaurant in the 1700 block of North Main Street for a potential commercial structure fire.

“There was light smoke in the building. No active fire,” said Chief Daniel Baum. “We found some smoldering material in one of the HVAC ducts.”

The cause is believed to have been a seized-up HVAC unit on the roof. The business resumed normal operations the same day.

Less than a day later, Taylor firefighters responded to a house fire on James Street that rendered a house uninhabitable. For more details, see e-Edition Highlights on page 8B.
