Council to consider two contracts

Council to consider two contracts

During their Thursday, April 11 meeting, Taylor City Council will consider awarding contracts to CourTex Constructions Inc. to build two park amenities.

One of the projects involves accepting the offer for building a new pickleball court in Murphy Park.

The proposed budget for the project is $195,000, $180,000 taken from the 2024 fiscal year budget and the rest given from the 2023 Samsung Quality of Life funds.

“The courts are planned to be installed in the vacant area south of the existing courts,” staff analysis said. “The project also includes the removal of the two existing practice boards located on the north fence of the existing pickleball courts, and replacing the failing structures with one 10’x20’ board on the north fence of the tennis court west of the existing pickleball courts.”

According to the agenda packet, construction would begin May 1 and take six to eight weeks.

The second potential contract is to reconstruct the running track around Memorial Field for a total proposed budget of $623,000.

CourTex Constructions Inc. would remove the existing track, resurface the track, add curb additions to the outside and inside perimeters and reduce the number of lanes on the track.

“The current track has seven lanes, yet the lanes are too narrow for current regulations and too close to the bleachers per industry construction requirements,” staff analysis said.

The agenda packet said the proposed breakdown would include $250,000 from a St. David’s Foundation grant, $75,000 from the 2023 Samsung Quality of Life funds and $298,000 from the 2024 FY budget.

Construction on the track lanes would also begin May 1 and take seven to nine weeks to finish.

Taylor Parks and Recreations advisory board approved the recommendation of both projects to move forward at their March 20 meeting.

In other business, city leaders will:

• Consider an ordinance regarding a Revolving Door Policy.

• Hold a public hearing on the introduction of an ordinance that amends the FY 2024 budget.

• Conduct a closed executive meeting regarding the city manager’s contract.

Taylor City Council regularly meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 400 Porter St. in Taylor. Agendas and live broadcasts are available at http://www.taylortx.gov.
