The Taylor Chamber of Commerce has moved its 2024 East Wilco Job Expo and Business Fair up to Saturday, April 27, this year instead of the usual September date.

“There is already so much going on in the fall,” Chamber Membership and Operations Director Rachael Westerman said. “And we feel like this new date is great for students graduating from high school and college, students on summer breaks and, of course, our building industry, which ratchets up its need for workers for spring projects.”

The expo lasts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Williamson County Expo Center, 5350 Bill Pickett Trail.

Westerman said the Expo Center will also be a great place to learn more about area businesses, churches, service providers, sample some great food and make some new friends.

“It’s the same event you are used to,” Westerman said. “With so many companies looking to hire, we are calling it a Job Expo and Business Fair. But there will still be prizes, music food and lots and lots of prizes.”

Admission is free and open to the public. Those attending are encouraged to bring their resumes, if they are looking for a job, and a donation for Shepherd’s Heart Food Pantry.

According to Westerman, the job fair theme is expected to be the same as the previous edition.

Last year’s theme was set to the phrase “there’s no place like home” from the Wizard of Oz.

Westerman said based on last year’s expo results, the Chamber has reached out to colleges and high schools in the area to recommend candidates with engineering interests to attend.

“There were a lot of Samsung suppliers last year,” Westerman said. “They were looking for engineers, which isn’t really common for job fairs … So, okay how do we try to capture all the [engineer pool].”

This will be the only Business Expo the Chamber will host this year. The event will not be repeated in the fall.

The event is sponsored at the platinum level by Samsung Austin Semiconductor, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 520, TCS Mechanical, and UA Plumbers and Pipefitters. On the gold level by Moose’s Brake and Tune Up and on the silver level by EPCOR, Lower Brushy Creek WCID, SPJST Skilled Nursing and Rehab, The UPTeam Consultants and Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area.

Other exhibitors include ACE Dental, Affordable Stem Cell Regeneration, Ally Medical, Austin Police Dept., Chicken Express, Direct Auto Insurance, City National Bank, Down Home Ranch, Hart Components, Durcon, Keller-Williams Lone Star, Laura Hovan with JB Goodwin Realtors, Reset Mentoring, Rockdale RV Park, Samsung E&C American, Shepherd’s Heart Food Pantry, Sirloin Stockade, Taylor Bible Church, Techest USA Corp, Texas Permitting Solutions and Land Use, US Dermatology Partners, Williamson County JPs and WellMed.

Residents seeking to learn more and register a business for the expo are encouraged to visit the Chamber’s website, www.taylorchamber.org.

The deadline for a business to register is Friday, April 12, but Westerman said they could potentially accept later registrations.
