LA GRANGE — The Taylor High School girls varsity soccer team had its inspired 2024 season come to an end Saturday, March 30 as the Lady Patos were defeated 4-0 in the 4A area playoffs by a strong Needville High School squad.
“Needville came in with more playoff experience, reaching the second round the past three years,” Taylor Head Coach Jose Flores said. “Which I believe helps by giving the players a bit more hunger to get to the next round.”
The Lady Patos held their own in the first half against the Lady Jays, who entered the afternoon with a stout 21-3 overall record and the 4A-District 21 champions. Taylor locked in on defense as a team in the first half against a high-powered Needville offensive down just 1-0 at halftime.
However, the Lady Jays got going in the second half with three unanswered goals that prevented the Lady Patos from being able to rally.
“We had a very successful season,” Flores said. “The players were confident about making the playoffs, so their priority was winning that first round. The future is really bright. This is our second year together and we are only going to get better.”
Taylor finished its 2024 season with a 15-10 overall record and was the 4A-District 24 runner-up with a 9-3 mark behind Giddings High School. The Lady Patos were crowned bi-district champions March 25 as Taylor won a thrilling 2-1 match over Robinson High School with goals from sophomore Tessa Kopecky and freshman Kaitlin Crane.
The Giddings Lady Buffaloes remain one of the top teams in 4A and are currently undefeated with a 20-0-3 mark heading into their regional semifinal match April 5 against Vidor High School.
