CHINA SPRING — The Hutto High School boys varsity soccer team had its history-making 2024 season come to a close Friday, March 29 as the Hippos were edged 1-0 in the 6A area playoffs by Garland High School.

In an extremely hard-fought match by both the Hippos and Owls, these two teams played strong defense throughout as Hutto and Garland were deadlocked at 0-0 at halftime.

However, the Owls got on the board with the lone goal early in the second half as Garland senior Emmanuel Lopez scored on an assist from junior Kenny Sepulveda to take a 1-0 lead. This advantage would hold the rest of the way as Hutto was unable to rally and advance to the next round.

Hutto, under Head Coach Joshua Johnson, finished the 2024 season with an 8-5-6 overall record and was the No. 3 seed out of 6A-District 12 with a 5-3-4 mark. The Hippos made program history Tuesday, March 26 in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Waxahachie High School in the bi-district playoffs, the first-ever playoff win for Hutto boys soccer.

This Hutto squad will continue to get better with junior Jacob Bell, junior Edmond Elone, junior Selvin Sevilla, freshman Sebastian Gonzalez and others set to return for next season.
